Infant Program

Newborn - 12 months

Our infant program is designed for infants ages 6 weeks-12 months. We follow the philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori by creating a warm and inviting environment. Our guides respect the babies as unique individuals who are in process of becoming toddlers by allowing them to develop in their own way and at their own pace. Although the infants are not yet verbal, guides speak to them pointing out things in the environment and explaining what is happening and what they can expect. For it is through the modeling of language that children develop language skills.

The environment is open with space for the infants to explore without unnecessary obstacles.  Like all Montessori environments, it is critical that the classroom is prepared to meet the specific needs at this stage of development.

Montessori methods stress observation of the infant by the guides. By means of this observation, the guide learns the needs of the individual child: social, emotional, and developmental. This enables her to prepare a proper environment for each child's self-growth. As infants change continually, so must their environment change in appropriate ways. It is through careful observation that the caregiver knows how to make these changes.
